Why sterilise 'harmless' GM fish?
I was quite amused by Professor Hew Choy Leong's emphatic dismissal of legitimate concerns over the potential threat posed by genetically-modified fish to the natural ecology in his letter, 'GM fish sterilised to protect ecology' (ST, Jan 19).
If he and other scientists are so convinced that there is no threat, then why, I wonder, is there a need to sterilise GM fish?
And I wonder if he realises the natural ecology includes not just fish, but other living things as well.
